What’s wrong with this picture?

What do you see?

Is the image playful? Sinister?

Is the diver rescuing her? Are they in love? Is the girl dead?

Influenced by Warhol’s “Death and Disaster” series (1962-1964), Dominique has taken a vintage photograph from an old American newspaper and taken it out of context; painstakingly hand stitching each pixel.

This repetitive, monotonous stitching reflects Warhol’s repeated images, yet also questions Dominique's own sanity.

Dominique does not approach the medium of pixelated thread art as a feminist, more so what needle and thread represent.

The concept of Life and Death; both in literal image and medium.

The Godesses of Destiny – Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.

Clotho spins the thread of life, Lachesis determines the length of the thread and Atropos cuts the thread when the time has come for death.

“Old News” is a lifecycle.  The girl in the image is dead.

Her thread has been cut.
